Observation 1

Today was the first observation at Harbor View Elementary, and aside from being a little sleepy (I know it is good for me to get into the habit of getting up early, but that does not make it any easier), I enjoyed the first observation. Mrs. Bradford has been teaching for 13 years, and she is a lovely person. Her students seem to be at this early stage, quite intelligent. This not only speaks to their desire to be in and enjoy school, but also speaks to to the fine teachers at Harbor View who have helped these kids along for the grades prior to third. I am very excited about working at this school, and I hope to learn (and teach) a lot!

Goals:
Organization is definitely my prioritized goal for this semester. I want to be a teacher who has well kept files on assessment, and has a neat and tidy room, and like getting up early in the morning, I will not attain this by simply starting one day. It will take practice, and so practice I will make.
I hope to be working with 3rd graders this semester, so I think it is also one of my goals to really know my stuff, and that means preparing beforehand. I don't want to get caught in the wind, when a kid asks me for help with a fraction problem (oooo fractions, I hate fractions!)
I want to reach out even more to other staff and the principal. When I got my B. Ed, I just assumed that everyone would want to call me (I mean a male teaching Kindergarten, I would be a no-brainer). Now I know that will not be the case. I have to work at connections, and building my network.

Intro Field 2

So, Being a teacher has been the only thing that I have excelled at, aside from acting, and since getting any sort of job acting is as likely as winning the lottery, teaching is the next best thing. I have always had a rapport with children, I can make them laugh, and that brings me happiness. I suppose my ideal job would be to entertain children, like my late grandfather who had the prestige of being a professional clown, and I even liken being an entertainer to being a teacher. You have to hold people's attention, and teach them new things. Over the last few months, as I completed my Field 3 experience, my desire has grown stronger, and my certainty that this is the correct career path for me has become more solidified in my mind. I am worried about my handwriting. It is far from neat. I must remember to slow down, especially for young children. A teacher is constantly modeling the correct things to do and say. I also worry about not knowing the correct answers to certain questions children have, especially when it comes to math. I am terrible for example when it comes to fractions. I do however work well under pressure, so I know that whatever is thrown at me, I will be able to handle with confidence and professionalism!
